OUR DEPOTS
Mpika Fuel Depot is a satellite depot that is operated and maintained by TAZAMA PetroleumProducts Limited, a subsidiary company of TAZAMA Pipelines Limited (TAZAMA), which was incorporated in 2008 following the appointment of TAZAMA as an Agent of the Government of the Republic of Zambia the responsibilities of supervising the receipt, storage, and transportation of refinery feedstock/refined LSG from the storage tanks in Dar es Salaam through the pipeline to Ndola, Zambia.
Mpika Fuel Depot has a total tank storage capacity of 6.5 million liters, located in Mpika (Muchinga Province) and was officially commissioned on September 5, 2014 by the then Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water Development.
The core purpose of Mpika Fuel depot is providing services of fuel receipts, storage and distribution to Oil Marketing Companies. The depot contributes to the company generation of revenue from throughput fees, offloading fees, storage fees, rentals and administrative fees for services provided to Oil Marketing Companies.
This depot is a key hub for fuel distribution in the Northern region of Zambia as it services four provinces namely, Muchinga, Luapula, Northern and parts of Central Province. Because of this strategic location in the Northern region, the Oil marketing companies have greatly benefited in terms of improved fuel distribution logistics, reduced transportation costs and overall streamlined operations. Also, the depot gives back to the surrounding communities through creation of employment opportunities and corporate social responsibilities.
Mpika Fuel Depot is connected to the Tazama main pipeline through a 3 KM inland pipeline hence the depot is able to receive refined diesel from Dar-es-salaam through the Tazama main pipeline.
FUEL TANK STORAGE
The depot has a total fuel tank storage capacity of 6.5 million liters with 5 fuel storage tanks,
currently the distribution is as follows:
- Low Sulphur Gas is stored in two tanks with a combined capacity of 4 million liters.
- Premium motor spirit is stored in two tanks with a combined capacity of 2 million liters.
- Kerosene is stored in a tank with a capacity of 500,000 liters.
These steel tanks are equipped with internal floating and are above ground fitted with impressed current cathodic protection system, firefighting system, and Automatic Tank Gauging.
PRODUCT PUMPs AND METERING UNITS
The depot has a total number of 6 installed electric motor driven pumping units and 8 metering units. These include both loading and offloading units. The depot has two loading bays and one offloading bay.
OTHER EQUIPMENT
The depot has Fire Tender Truck with onboard water capacity of 4000 liters and AFFF form with capacity of 6000Liters, Diesel Engine and Electric Motor driven stationary Fire Pump. Also, the depot has a standby Diesel Engine Generator for power backup and a 1-million-liter fire water above ground storage tank.
It is worth noting that Mpika Fuel depot sits on a 7.5 hectares of land hence, there is enough land
for future expansion of the depot.
